Minimally
invasive surgery is the standard in human medicine and we are pleased
to offer these services to our patients. Arthroscopy, or the surgical
evaluation and treatment of conditions of the joints using rigid endoscopy,
is an attractive alternative to traditional open surgical approaches.
These procedures are associated with lower patient morbidity, improved
recovery, increased client satisfaction and decreased hospital stays.
Arthroscopy may be used to treat or diagnose problems such as hip laxity,
elbow arthritis, shoulder, stifle, fragmented medial coronoid process,
shoulder OCD, stifle OCD, bicepital tendonitis and shoulder instability
and arthritis.
Arthroscopic
sugery in veterinary patients is usually done through two small incisions.
The surgeon views the surgical field, on a television monitor, under magnification
and performs the procedure through the small incisions using specially
designed intruments. Patients are usually walking on their operated limb
the day after surgery and in some cases are dismissed from the hospital
the same day.
