After an STVS technician reviews your pet's medical history and current situation, his or her vitals will be taken (i.e. temperature, pulse, and respiration).  Once all vitals are taken and all information is gathered, the doctor will be in shortly.

Doctor's Appointment and Procedure

The doctor will discuss all possible procedures and outcomes for your pet.  You will be given a written estimate for the diagnosed procedure, post-operative care, and dismissal (including most post-operative medications).  Once a decision is made, your pet will be escorted to our treatment area where he or she will be accomodated in a kennel with comfortable towels and blankets for them to lie on.  Water will be provided throughout your pet's stay unless otherwise specified by the doctor.  Food is provided if your pet wil be having surgery the next day and when they are awake from anesthesia.  If they require a special diet, please bring it along with any other medications (i.e. thyroid, seizure medications, etc.).  Depending on his or her recovery, your pet will stay with us from 1-3 days.Once your pet is taken from the exam room into the treatment area, you will be escorted to the receptionist's area to finalize paperwork and leave the lower part of the estimate. The order of the surgeries is dependent upon emergencies and previous schedulings.  The timeframe of the procedure depends upon the procedure, your pet's health concerns, and difficulty of the repair.  You are welcome to call anytime to check on your pet, but the doctor or technician will typically call you when the procedure is completed.  The doctor is able to provide you with information about how the procedure went and what to expect in terms of prognosis.  The technicians can provide information on how your pet is doing and recovery.

Dismissal from the Hospital

When your pet has been released to return home, you will be notified by our discharge technician or doctor.  To ensure that your pet is ready when you arrive to pick him or her up, please provide us with an estimated time of pick-up so that we can prepare your pet, discharge papers, and medications.  Discharge typically takes 15-30 minutes.  Please check in with our receptionists when you arrive.  At this time, any outstanding balance will be due.  Any credit balances will be handled then as well.

Before you receive your pet, you will be led in to an exam room to discuss written instructions, x-rays, medications, and any other information relevant to the care of your pet.  Medications are typically given for one week, but if your pet needs long term medications, they will be called in to a compounding pharmacy who will contact you on compounding flavors and billing information.  If you have any questions after you leave, you may call anytime, and we will assist you over the phone to the best of our ability.
